4 Tips to Help The Struggling Worker-From-Home

We are officially out of the honeymoon phase of working from home. Like many of us, maybe you started the office from home life with a bang: a set schedule, motivation to be productive, and dreams of all you would finally have time to accomplish around the house, but several months into this thing, you find yourself doing the bare minimum to get by in your work. Do not fear, you are not alone! All of us who are working from home are facing the ups and downs together. The ebbs and flows are normal, however, that doesn't mean you have to sit and wait until your moxie returns! Below are some tips to help you maximize your productivity while you work from home.

Create a Space

This is easier on those with extra space in there house, but possible for all! It is important for your focus and productivity to have a place designated for your work; A place to come to when you are ready to work, and a place you leave when you are done. Your workspace doesn’t have to be its own room, it could be a corner of the kitchen table—but it should feel as separate from the rest of your home as possible. To make working from home life sustainable, it is important to separate home life from work life. If you never truly disconnect from work, your work productivity will suffer and your home life may take a hit as well. Try making your workspace comfortable with a few decorations, a comfortable chair, and some natural light. These things will help enhance your focus and productivity!

Make a Plan

Your work plan should include your specific goals for the day and a schedule to help you achieve them. Try putting the hardest thing first on your daily schedule. This helps encourage productivity, and boosts moral when you finish it! While making your schedule, include clear start and finish times, as well as all the breaks you hope to take. Be clear about when you are working and when you are not! You are in charge of your environment and have to treat yourself like an employee. This means holding yourself accountable, but also recognizing when enough is enough, just as a good manager might.

Show Up (on time & dressed)

This seems a bit simple, but a big part of productivity is dressing the part! Staying in your pajamas all day is tempting, but often times, our efficiency takes a big hit when we don't "show up" properly. This is another way to draw the line between work and personal life. You don’t need to dress as formally as you might for work, but the simple act of changing clothes serves as a signal that it’s time to wake up and get things done. Show up to your work space on time and ready to go!

Look for Growth Opportunities

A great way to fight complacency is learning. The big fight of every working-from-home employee is the fight against laziness. If you are actively looking for ways to grow, (inside or outside your field) you help foster passion and curiosity!
